The Junior Development Program in Track and Field is designed to provide athletes between the ages of 9 to 13 with a structured environment to build and refine their skills in various track and field events.
This program focuses on developing technical abilities, improving overall fitness, and instilling key values such as discipline, commitment, and teamwork. Following Athletics Canada’s long-term athlete development model, it provides the necessary tools for athletes to progress at their own pace, with a focus on both personal growth and athletic performance.
One of the primary goals of the program is to enhance athletes’ technical skills in key track and field events, such as running, jumping, and throwing. Coaches work closely with athletes to break down each skill into manageable components, helping them improve through consistent practice and feedback.
Improving athletic performance is not only about physical ability but also about building resilience and self-discipline. The program teaches young athletes the importance of setting goals, being patient with progress, and maintaining a strong commitment to their training. These life lessons are valuable both on and off the track.
Experienced head coaches and assistant coaches run the program, providing guidance, support, and tailored instruction to ensure that each athlete gets the most out of their experience. This program is an essential step in fostering a lifelong love for track and field while setting the stage for future athletic success.

To register:
- Complete your BC Athletics registration via bcathletics.org/membership.
- Complete the New West Spartans registration form.
- Complete the New West Spartans photo release form.
- Bring the Spartans registration and photo release forms, as well as a cheque made out to NW Spartans Track and Field Club, to the first practice.
Registration must be complete, with all forms submitted and fees paid, before the practices starts.
