New West Spartans, the “Home of National and Provincial Champions”
Since 2011, Spartans won 22 medal at National Championships, 10 of them Gold.
Spartans continue to be the ” Home of the National and Provincial Champions. Nina Schultz and her coach Tatjana Mece were selected again at the BC Provincial Youth team for the 2014 Canadian Legion Championship in Langley on August 15-17. And they confirmed again their qualities with great results when Schultz was one of the top country athletes in jumps events.
With the gold and the silver of Schultz in horizontal jumps, our athletes ensured in five years, since the Spartans National Program started in 2011, the total of 22 medals, 10 of them gold and country champions titles, 8 silver, 4 bronze in Canadian Championships.
In fact, it was one dramatic moment in high jumps were she did not succeeded 1.65m, but just few minute after that, there was delight and a great satisfaction for her and all of us when she jumped 5.82m in long jump winning the crown of this event and the Canadian Champion title. With the cheering and the claps of the crowd, the 15 years old Spartan girl achieved a 10cm personal best and she is still # 1 in the province not only for youth but and for 18-19 years old junior category. Schultz continued the personal best series in Triple jumps winning the silver with a new results of 12.17m.
In the horizontal jumps, Schultz is # 2, and for high jumps #1 in the country for youth and junior category.
Nina demonstrated a great spirit when she runs a fast and personal best time of 57.80 (split time) at the first leg of 4×400 with BC Team.
The 14 years Spartan midget boy, Diego Medrano Romo, who study in the second year of our best school of hurdles, runs a great race in 200m hurdles making the final and finished 5th with a time of 26.80, a BC Award Standard time for the midget category.

It was first junior experience at Canadian Championships for three Spartans, Nina Schultz, Mihailo Stefanovic and Bogdan Pavel who represented the BC Junior Provincial team in St.Therese, Quebec on July 4-6. And three medals winning, Bronze for Schultz in HJ and Silver for Stefanovic and Pavel in 4×100 with the final in 110mH were another credit for them.
BC Jamboree with the Bucket of 11 Medals
With the positive impression competing at Canadian Junior Championships, the New West Spartans came in BC Provincial Jamboree. A team of 6 athletes, two girls and four boys, competed on July 11-13 in Kamloops and achieved great results.
Nina Schultz won three gold medal in her favourite events as HJ, LJ and TJ with a new personal best of 11.69m, and a bronze in 100mH.
Excepts ranking # 1 in the country in HJ and second in horizontal jumps, Schultz is confirmed today from IAAF (International Amateur Athletics Federation) as # 6 ranked in the world in heptathlon for youth category. After the results of M.Stefanovic at World Youth T&F Championship in Donetsk, those achievements better colour the mark of New Westminster in the map of World Track and Field.
Tamara Harris, makes some adjusting of her hurdling experience at UBC team coming third in 400mH with a time of 1:01.71, a huge personal best of 2.14 sec. This results rank her in 3rd place in the Province for senior in this event, two spots better than her position in 800m.
In the boys side, Mihailo Stefanovic and Bogdan Pavel dominated in 110mH with amazing personal bests of 14.49 and 14.72, winning the gold and silver. N.Milutinovic runs well in 110mH (PB) and 300mH.
After a great start in 400mH, we were excited to have a great result from Stefanovic but despite hitting the third hurdles, he missed this opportunity.
The New West Spartans 4×100 m relay team with N.Milutinovic (17), D.Medrano (14),B.Pavel(17) and M.Stefanovic (18) won the gold medal and the junior champion title with the time of 44.41.
Spartans came home with 11 medals, 8 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze.
BC ATHLETICS ANNOUNCES 2014 BC JUNIOR TEAM
BC Athletics announced the BC Provincial Team for the Canadian Junior Track and Field Championship in St.Therese, Quebec.
Three New West Spartans athletes are selected to represent the BC Team.
1. Mihailo Stefanovic 110mH
2. Bogdan Pavel 110mH
3. Nina Schults, High Jump
Spartans Technical Director, Besnik Mece will be the BC Provincial Middle Distance, Distance and Race Walk coach.

News From New West Spartans, Home of the Provincial Champions
The New West Spartans is not only for the elite athletes. Our program is wider and the BC JD Championships was the last competitions of New West Spartans for 2014 Track and Field Season for our junior development athletes.
And the group age of 9-13 years old, performed very well and raised the bar of the BC Champions up to 13 Gold medals following the success of the Spartans Jamboree elite athletes in this long track season.
After 11 medals of Nina Schultz, Mihalio Stefanovic, Bogdan Pavel, Nikola Milutinovic and Diego Medrano Romo, at BC High School and Jamboree Championships, the 9 years old Gurshan Sing Khela added one more gold in Long Jump on Sunday, July 27, winning one other BC Champion titles for JD category. His amazing achievements jumping 3.57m with a personal best of 29 cm was also and for replacing his brother Gurveer who missed the competitions of this championships.
Gurshan won and a bronze in 60m H with a personal best of 11.85
Tirus Glowacki did a solid presentation in his favourites events winning the silver in 80mH and a bronze in 200mH.
Alisha Bremer competed very well winning a bronze in 60mH and achieving the personal best in other events where she competed as 100m and 200m and long Jump.
Great presentation was and from Jujhar Nahal in his favourite event of shot put throwing 8.90m. Nahal performed very well and had a personal best of 1.14m ranked at the fourth place.
Nina Schultz broke the BC Heptathlon Youth record ranked # 1 in the country.
It was an amazing presentation of NW Spartans athletes at last two track meets, Jessie Bent in Coquitlam and Langley Pacific Invitational.
A record-breaking victory was Nina Schultz in Heptathlon for youth on Friday and Saturday, June 13-14, winning 6th of the seventh events ( 100mH;HJ;SP;200m;LJ and JT) with new scoring of 5105 points. Spectacular was her jump over 1.78m. And with this heights, Nina has to celebrate three achievements.
First, she beat her coach Tatjana Mece heights of 1.76m of 1977; secondly beating her grandmother with 1,77m in 1957; and third, ranking # 1 in the country for Youth and Junior category. Schultz won another gold and in Triple Jump.

Mihailo Stefanovic won the 110mH in Coquitlam with the time of 14.74 achieving the BC Provincial Team Standard for Canadian Junior Championship. He runs for the first time a solid 400mH with 56.24 winning the silver.
Bogdan Pavel did a good presentation, third in Coquitlam and second in Langley in 110mH.
Tamara Harris won the senior race of 800m with a new meet record of 2:09.19.
Other highlight was the victory of Alicia Bremer in 60mH with 10.22 , the BC JD Award Standard and Gurshan Khela with gold in 60m hurdles.
All other Spartans as Manisha Kandola, Damanpreet and Hersimran Rai, Nikolla and Jovana Milutinovic, Diego Medrano, Tirus Glowacki, Gurweer Khela, Jujhar Nahal and Bramwell Chao achieved great results.
New West Spartans Athletes Splendid at BC High School Championships
- Nina Schultz, Jumped Over the Moon and won the Outstanding Athlete of the Championships achieving 4 Gold Medals.
- New Westminster Secondary School won the 2014 BC Provincial High School Champion Titles for Girls and Overall.
- Spartans won 8 Medals (5 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze) with three BC Champions in individual events.
It was an amazing presentation of 4 Spartans athletes at 2014 BC High School Championships.
Nina Schultz, continued her series of the victories winning the high jump with 1.75m. This new heights ranked her # 1 in Canada not only for youth but for the juniors category too.
Schultz did not stopped over the moon, but she continue to jumps in the space reaching at triple another amazing results of 11.66m winning the third gold. The fourth and the last gold for Nina, cams by her great run of 57.99 at the second leg of her 4x400m relay team making with her team members the New Westminster Secondary School Girls and Overall Team for the first time in the history of track and field: 2014 BC Provincial High School Champion
The talented hurdler Bogdan Pavel, who will run for UBC next year, shows great performance in 110mH with a personal best of 14.96 winning the silver and contributing in 4x100m senior relay with his football teammates winning the bronze.
An amazing presentation did Diego Medrano winning the silver in 100m dash with 12.07 for bantam category and a gold with his South Burnaby 4x100m relay team.
Nikola Milutinovic had a great improvements in 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles for junior category ranking in 7th place with a personal best.
Looks like the history was waiting for Spartans to come.

Nina Schultz Shines Winning the BC Heptathlon High School Championship

Stephanie Cho of Sir Winston Churchill, who came third in heptathlon and Jasper Schiedel of Vancouver College who won the decathlon, trained with New West Athletics Program led by the head coach Tatjana Mece.
Spartans and VOC Athletes Excel at BC High School Combined Events Championship
Last weekend, despite rain and wind, two VOC athletes had incredible performances in the women’s heptathlon and men’s decathlon events. Both events were scheduled over two days.
Canadian Champion in Pentathlon, Nina Schultz, a grade 10 student of New Westminster Secondary School, did an incredible presentation winning the BC High School Heptathlon at her first time competing in this events. Schultz, still 15 years old, achieved 4655 points with great performances and personal bests in 100m Hurdles,800m and in Long Jump with 5.72m. This results is a BC Junior Team Standard for competing at Canadian Junior Championship.
Jasper Schiedel, a grade ten student at Vancouver College, won the decathlon event as an exhibition entry, with the highest points of 5560. Jasper had a huge improvement with PBs in seven events (100m, 110mH, 400m, 1500m, Pole Vault, Javelin and Discus). Jasper entered as exhibition status so that he would be eligible to compete in his junior age division at next weekend ’s B.C. high school track and field championships in Langley and therefore did not wear the gold medal.
Stephanie Cho, a grade 11th student at Sir Winston Churchill, came third in the heptathlon with great results of 4342 points. Stephanie had excellent results in 100mH, 800m and Javelin. Stephanie shared the podium with VOC’s favorite training partner, Nina Shultz of the NW Spartans who took the Gold.
The great results of Nina Schultz of NW Spartans and Jasper Schiedel and Stephanie Cho of VOC, show the domination of the New Westminster Athletics School in the province and in the country.
