Alumni Athletes Achieve Great Results!

This past week has been an exciting week for track fans worldwide, and it has been particularly exciting for our coaches as they watch their old athletes shine internationally. The New West Spartans, and sister-club, Vancouver Olympic Club (VOC), have garnered some pretty impressive results from alumni athletes.

We start with Stephanie Cho, who trained with VOC throughout her Junior Development athletic career. After high school, Cho continued her athletic career at Washington State University, where she specialized in the 400m Hurdles. This past week, at the NCAA Track and Field Championships, held in Eugene, Oregon, Cho ran a personal best time of 57.48, placing her eighth overall.

Next we have Alumni, Caleigh O’Flaherty, who started with the New West Spartans as a promising athlete, in the youth category. After high school, O’Flaherty continued her athletics career at the University of Illinois, specializing in multi-events. She’s only a freshman at university, however, she is already achieving good results. At the Missouri Valley Championships, held in May 2021, O’Flaherty earned 3865 points in the Heptathlon, placing her eighth overall. Our coaches are excited to see what Caleigh will achieve in upcoming seasons.

And finally, we’d like to congratulate alumni athlete, Nina Shultz, for winning the Heptathlon at the Arona Combined Events Meeting, held in Tenerife, this past week. This Olympic hopeful garnered 6358 points to win the event. Schultz is also an alumni of Kansas State University, and the University of Georgia, and is now focusing on advancing her professional athletic career.

We are rooting for all of our alumni athletes, and wish them all the best in upcoming competitions.
